Ironically, it is also the obligatory car in the truck race challenge that will unlock the Big Rig if completed successfully. Not particularly sturdy, but all the more speedy, this little fellow specializes in evading heavy collisions and Wreckfest-predators like the Harvester. One of the smallest and most nimble cars in the game is the three-wheeled Supervan. As this suggests, the Harvester is tons of fun to play, even though quite bulky and slow in the turns. Mind you, this machine is far from turning the game into an agriculture simulation – threshing corn is significantly less its expertise than crunching metal is. Jumping from one extreme to the next, we present to you one of the most robust vehicles in Wreckfest: the Harvester! Yes, the game will let you drive an actual combine harvester – a quite authentic one even, aside from the stylish graffiti. As it unsurprisingly doesn't score too highly in sturdiness either, only real Wreckfest pros will make the Sofa Car work in the arena. Besides, you know, being a piece of furniture on wheels, the aspect of its rear wheel drive makes this "car" quite hard to steer. At least that's an actual vehicle! However, you will have to unlock the Sofa Car to grasp the full extent of Wreckfest's madness. ![]() The lawnmower is a funny concept, but, frankly, it ranks among the least far-fetched ones compared to other rides in the game. ![]() But this is certainly not as dull as it might sound: The vehicle itself is tricky to maneuver and only nimble navigators evade the charges of the other drivers. The very first challenge to overcome in Wreckfest is the perfect introduction to the game's concept: Driving exclusively lawnmowers, about 20 contestants are thrown into an arena to literally wreck one another as often as possible within a set time frame.

The first time I beat the game’s first boss, I had hit age 70. In fact, it’s extremely likely that the game’s first boss will beat you. The game isn’t forgiving in this you won’t be able to brute-force any of its bosses. While your character gets older and wiser in Sifu, you have to as well. Every attack can be dodged, leaving bosses open to a counter afterward. ![]() Some are vulnerable after a certain attack, others have moves that can be parried. The game is merciless, but the reward for solving its combat puzzles is immense. The game’s first boss attacks wildly, eventually slicing away at players with a machete, while the third starts by using a graceful weapon made of knives tied to chains but soon after drops those for a pair of kunai. Each of Sifu‘s bosses has its own style, attacks, and personality. Sifu‘s bosses are some of the most difficult boss fights I’ve encountered in any game. The game does its players a favor by granting a bit of health back after an enemy is taken down, but that doesn’t matter much when it comes to boss fights. They range in difficulty, with some basic grunts going down in a few hits while other trained fighters can block attacks and have to be approached thoughtfully. Each stage, all of which are a treat to fight through, is packed with enemies. One of Sifu‘s many goals is to stay as young as possible over the course of the game’s five levels, a massive challenge in and of itself. Their character will also do more damage to enemies, as they’re an older and wiser Kung Fu master, but it won’t matter much if punches and kicks aren’t avoided. It certainly doesn’t help that with every decade, players have less health. Increasing every time players go down, the game can quickly spiral into a cycle of dying, growing older, getting up, and dying again. The character’s age in Sifu increases by whatever number the game’s “death counter” is on. This isn’t too bad, except dying more means coming back exponentially older. The more players die, the older they get every time they come back. Instead, some time is taken away from them, and they get up older. However, they won’t be the same after coming back from the grave. ![]() In the game, all of these fights take place over the course of one night, but for the main character, it may be years until their master is avenged.Įvery time the hero goes down in Sifu, they can get back up thanks to a magic talisman they wear. Players fill the shoes of a young, 20-year-old martial artist looking to avenge their former master, who was murdered by a group of five Kung-Fu masters. Grow upĮasily the most divisive part of Sifu is the game’s aging mechanic. But anyone who ever thought Dark Souls would be better without its bonfires is going to find a masterpiece in balancing difficult yet rewarding gameplay. And while that difficulty is almost always offset by the game’s immensely satisfying combat mechanics and its addictive progression system, being a Kung Fu master can get exhausting.įor some, the challenge that Sifu presents won’t be worth it, as they spiral into a loop of dying and getting back up. Sifu is a madly challenging game, pitting players against five bosses that they have to beat over the course of one lifespan, using 70 years’ worth of time in one night thanks to a magic talisman. Not only is the main character’s journey over the course of the game about them growing into a Kung Fu master, but you, the player, will have to improve as well. ![]() Self-betterment is one of Sifu‘s many themes, along with revenge and forgiveness, but it’s the only one that ties both the game’s narrative and gameplay together. ![]() It’s not clear that this bar relates to your job, and they could at least change “Apply” to “Run” to make things a bit more obvious. Like Acronis True Image, Paragon HDM offers AES-128, AES-192 and AES-256, depending on the strength of encryption you need. There is also the option to encrypt your disk image backup, which should be enabled during initial set up (available in advanced backup settings under “Password protection”). drv files for Windows) but it’s not enabled by default and you are free to edit it. Since Paragon Hard Disk Manager has a lot of history when it comes to reliability in restoring data, perhaps they found from experience that backups are more resilient when split up like this.Īs with any decent premium disk imaging tool, you have the option to exclude files and folders from your backups. You can disable it but it still appears to split the backup into larger chunks even with splitting disabled. By default it splits the backup images into chunks of 4GB files. You can also select the level of compression to use (I’d leave this at the default), and change the image splitting options. However, note that compression and encryption options are only available in Paragon’s native format. In comparison, Acronis True Image does not allow you to save to third party formats. This gives you a lot of flexibility is using your backup data outside of Paragon and means you are not tied to Paragon HDM for managing your backups. In advanced settings, you have a selection of virtual disk formats to save to (Paragon’s own PVHD format, VMWare VMDK, VHD and VHDX). Here I am backing up to a network drive, and found the speed of navigation to network drive much snappier than Acronis True Image. However, I prefer to keep my backups on a separate disk in case the whole disk fails, or the device is stolen. Paragon HDM has something called a “Backup Capsule”, which is a separate backup partition you can create on your main hard drive. disk volume, OS) and where to save your backup. I personally prefer having a selection of tabs that I can navigate between as done by Acronis True Image, but at least a wizard presents a logical flow for new users. You will be prompted with a setup wizard. To create a disk image backup, select “Backup to VD” (where VD means virtual disk). On the main window in full mode, you will tabs for “Backup & Restore” for creating and restoring disk images, “Partitioning” for managing partions, “Copy & Migration” for copying to a new hard disk, migrating the OS, or migrating to a virtual machine, “Archives” to verify and selectively restore from backups, “Schedule” to set up regular backup schedules and “Volume Explorer” to navigate your hard disks. You want to be confident you can restore all your old disk images, and minimize the risk of any corruption in your backups. Paragon has an impeccable and long standing reputation for making reliable software, which is a major selling point. Part of the reason for the old interface is that Paragon has been around a long time (since 1994), making it one the oldest disk imaging tools that is still actively developed. However, it also offers an “Express mode” interface, which is simpler and far more intuitive (although still not as polished as Acronis True Image). Its interface is less user friendly than Acronis True Image, and some might find it a bit dated. create/merge/split/wipe) partitions as well as create disk image backups, then this is a good way to go, since you get these extra features for a similar cost to a dedicated imaging tool. As the name implies it offers a range of hard disk management features, so is not only for disk imaging. Paragon Hard Disk Manager (HDM) is a decent choice of disk imaging tool if you also want general disk management features but don’t mind spending time learning how to use the software.
